McCormack Supports Steps!

McCormack has signed on as Major Partner for Steps for Homeless Youth, the Property Industry Foundation’s popular walk-run event being held on Albert Park Lake in Melbourne on 9 May. We talked to Brendon Hawksley, Senior Project Manager, about their commitment to homeless youth.

What made you sign up as Major Partner for the Steps event?

At McCormack, we’re committed to supporting the Property Industry Foundation in their mission to end youth homelessness. Over the years, we’ve proudly contributed to Property Industry Foundation and likeminded charities such as Lighthouse Foundation, raising vital funds to create lasting change. Partnering as major sponsors for this event was a natural step, helping to build a community that drives real impact is an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.

"Steps is a unique opportunity to be part of something bigger, to create real impact while connecting with industry peers. Whether you’re running, walking, or just showing up to support, it’s an easy and meaningful way to give back.

Brendon Hawksley, McCormack

How does the event bring Melbourne’s property and construction industry together for a great cause?

This event is a fantastic way for project managers, commercial leasing teams, site crews, and industry professionals to step outside their usual work environments and come together for a shared purpose. It’s a chance to connect with familiar faces, strengthen relationships, and make a real difference, all while taking part in a great initiative.

How will your team take part in the event?

Our Director, Lauren McCormack, is rallying the troops, and rumour has it she has a big plan to secure top positions across every major category, whether it's the relay, 5km, 10km, or the walk. You will have to wait and see.

What would you say to encourage others to take part?

Everyone’s on a fitness kick these days, so why not lock in a goal early and have something to train for? Personally, I could stand to lay off the burritos and get moving! But in all seriousness, this is a unique opportunity to be part of something bigger, to create real impact while connecting with industry peers. Whether you’re running, walking, or just showing up to support, it’s an easy and meaningful way to give back.

McCormack recently completed the renovation of Lakeside Pavilion in Albert Park, the venue for this event. What can people expect?

Funny enough, I was actually the Senior Project Manager on this one. The transformation speaks for itself; these upgrades were key in enhancing accessibility and creating a modern space that the community can call home for years to come. I can’t wait for everyone to experience this revitalised landmark at the event.
