Battle lines have been drawn for an epic night at Construction Rocks, our 10th annual music fundraiser for homeless youth on 7 August at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory. Find out more about the seven bands swapping offices and work sites for the main stage.
“Born out of a shared love for loud guitars and good causes, The Na Na Nahs is a group of mates who traded weekend barbecues for band rehearsals all in the name of charity. With hearts as big as their amps, they fuse classic rock energy with a modern edge, delivering high voltage sets that raise the roof and raise funds,” says guitar and vocalist, Mitchell McLennan.
Whether covering the indie-rock anthems you forgot you loved or dropping original tunes with purpose, this band aims to unite the Construction Rocks crowd with the power of music. Jamming with Mitchell are bandmates Colden Locke, George Fotakopoulos and Mike Sheehan.
Nick, the fearless conductor of the RPS Family Band, takes the music seriously but never himself. Bursting with energy, he moves from acoustic crooner to shredding vocalist – “often with more enthusiasm than talent” he admits. Resident rock chick Jo Cunningham is a hard-hatted, leopard print loving legend in her own lunch break. With a power drill in one hand and a mic in the other, she struts through construction sites belting out 80s rock anthems, convinced she’s the next big thing. Rounding out the group are funkmaster Omair Ali, drummer Tom Pulver, guitarist Hugh Hoban and James Reid: “Project Manager by day and groove merchant by night”.
Mott MacDonald took out last year’s coveted title of Construction Rocks Best Band – will they do it again this year?
“MottRose is a hard rockin', high octane combination of the technical talents of the Mott MacDonald Engineers and prowess of Norton Rose Fulbright, paying homage to the 70's rock legends "Montrose" with our own take on rock classics,” says bandmember Stephen Giblett, who says he’s: “living the dream as front man in the tradition of rock legends, where the energy is high and the vocal talent questionable.” MottRose also features Alison Naimo on drums, Joe Collins on electric axe, Joshua Carton on bass and backing vocals, and Ray Giblett shredding on lead guitar.
Band members Ben Ellis, Stephanie Renshaw, Caroline Croucher, Warwick Mayer and Ben Cividen are back by popular demand and still riding high off their electrifying win in 2024 for People’s Choice and Top Fundraising band. Off the CHarts returns in 2025 to light up the stage once again, performing crowd-pleasing recent and nostalgic hits that are sure to get the crowd waving their glow sticks.
“AU-Rock on is a dynamic rock band composed of talented engineers who trade calculations and deadlines with electrifying music that's as solid as concrete and as thrilling as a high-speed chase down Westconnex,” say the band.
AU - Rock On is made up of Alex Vorstermans - a structural engineer and a keen musician; Adrian Pinto - a seasoned Acoustic Engineer passionate about sound who strums the acoustic and electric guitar; Nadeesha Pallegedera - an ICT engineer and passionate soul, R’n’B and pop singer who has performed alongside music stars Hugh Jackman and Guy Sebastian; Ama Kamalasuriya - a project manager, civil engineer and drummer; and Gab Samaniego - a civil engineer who has performed as a guitarist and vocalist in a variety of bands, musicals and comedy shows.
The Consultants of Swing are a close-knit team of client-side project managers who have worked together over the past several years at TSA Riley. Here's what they say about their band: "On discovering a shared passion for music and similar musical tastes (Rock and Roll!), we put a band together and started jamming for a bit of fun outside of work hours. Following in the footsteps of TSA's previous band (The 5PMs - 2023), we are looking forward to the 'rockstars for a night' experience in the name of a great cause. Being a bit better organised than 2023, we are hoping to promote and fundraise more successfully this year!"
Don’t miss being in the audience on 7 August at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory as these electrifying industry bands celebrate a decade of using their music skills to raise funds and awareness for homeless youth.
