Why I’m Hiking the Night
Imagine being 16 and not knowing where you’ll sleep tonight.
For thousands of young Australians, that isn’t hypothetical…it’s
reality.
In the latest Census, around 45,000 children and young people under 25 were
experiencing homelessness in Australia;
- Some are couch surfing.
- Some are sleeping in overcrowded homes.
- Some are sleeping in cars, on trains, or outside.
Without a safe place to live, everything becomes harder; staying in school, holding a job, and simply feeling safe.
So on Friday 1 May, I’ll be walking 30km overnight from Dromana to Cape Schanck as part of Hike the Night to raise funds to help young people experiencing homelessness.
If you’re able to donate, even small amounts make a real difference:
· $13 can provide three meals for a young person
· $50 can provide winter woollies or essential toiletries
· $100 can provide internet access for a month, helping a young person stay connected to school, training or work
While most of us are asleep that night, I’ll be walking, hoping each step helps a young person move closer to safety, stability and a future.
Thank you so much for supporting this journey.
